'Stuart works on site in the English countryside, using locally found materials like moss, lichen, leaves, chalk, charcoal and earth. He applies these materials to paper which is often beaten, scored and ripped with found flint. The use of these unconventional materials signifies a profound commitment and connection to his immediate environment.
The ephemeral aspects of the work remind us of the passing of beauty and of life, with it’s melancholy cast. But his work also shows us how to look for and cherish beauty when and where we can. Fortunately, the residue of his activity (sometimes verging on performance) does remain as a record and is very beautiful in itself.'
